Hold onto your web-shooters, Spider-Man fans, because a controversial character from the past might be swinging back into the spotlight! Rumor has it that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will reintroduce a figure from the previous trilogy that many believed—or perhaps hoped—was gone for good. This news has already sparked heated debates among fans, and it’s only the beginning.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to relaunch Tom Holland’s portrayal of the beloved wall-crawler, marking the start of what’s rumored to be a second trilogy. While this film promises a fresh chapter, Peter Parker won’t be severing all ties to his past. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are confirmed to return as MJ and Ned Leeds, though in more limited roles. But here’s where it gets controversial: another familiar face from Parker’s high school days is reportedly making an appearance.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, Tony Revolori’s Flash Thompson will be part of Brand New Day. Traditionally portrayed as a physically intimidating bully, Revolori’s version in Spider-Man: Homecoming took a different approach, depicting Flash as a spoiled rich kid whose disdain for Peter added a layer of comedic tension. This interpretation divided fans, and Flash’s brief appearance in No Way Home did little to settle the debate. Is this character worth revisiting, or has Parker endured enough of Flash’s antics?
A recent casting call hinted that Peter will meet a new group of college friends, so unless Flash miraculously ends up at the same college (seriously, how much more can Parker take?), it’s likely Revolori’s role will be minor. But even a small reappearance could reignite the polarizing opinions surrounding this character.
And this is the part most people miss: Brand New Day is shaping up to be a star-studded affair, with Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, and Sadie Sink in an undisclosed role. Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova is also expected to make a cameo, adding to the film’s already impressive lineup.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton shared his enthusiasm during CinemaCon, saying, ‘I’m spending my time exploring the next stage of this amazing character with a team of the most incredible artists in the world. We’re all, just daily, nerding out over the suit, how to swing, how to create an event, an emotional story, and a ride that we haven’t really seen before.’
Tom Holland echoed this excitement in a behind-the-scenes video: ‘It’s day one—my fourth-ever day one on Spider-Man. You know, it’s funny. Putting the suit on, it feels different this time, somehow. It’s also the first time we’ve ever had fans on set for day one, so it’s really exciting to share this with them. We’ve got some familiar faces on set. You know, I’m just going to do my best, hopefully get it right. No pressure.’
Meanwhile, Spider-Man 4 has been pushed back a week, from July 24, 2026, to July 31, 2026. But the real question remains: What do you think about Flash Thompson’s potential return? Is it a welcome surprise or an unnecessary distraction? Let us know in the comments—this debate is far from over!
