Get ready for a wild weather ride in Queensland!
After a weekend of chaotic storms, the forecast predicts more showers and potential storms for south-east Queensland, while the western regions will experience a significant temperature drop.
The Weather Bureau's Senior Meteorologist, Angus Hines, warns of a "wholesale change in conditions" from the severe thunderstorms that hit the state on Saturday.
"Monday will bring brighter skies and sunshine to the east coast," Hines assures us. However, he adds, "The extreme weather we witnessed, with large and giant hailstones, is unlikely to repeat itself. We're expecting big atmospheric changes across Queensland, not just at the surface."
Residents in Tamborine Mountain and northern Gold Coast suburbs like Pacific Pines and Maudsland experienced overnight hailstones measuring up to 5 centimeters in diameter.
But here's where it gets controversial... While the east coast enjoys brighter skies, the west will face a cooler climate with a band of rain moving in. Temperatures across western parts of the state could drop by up to 12 degrees Celsius below average on Monday, according to Hines.
"We're looking at extensive wet weather from the far south-west to the north-west, with light to moderate falls but widespread coverage," he explains.
The bureau predicts this band of wet weather will push towards the coast on Tuesday, with most areas receiving light rainfall.
"The temperature change won't be dramatic, but some coastal spots will feel a few degrees cooler from Wednesday onwards," Hines adds.
The rest of the week is expected to be mostly sunny in the south-east, with a severe heatwave in the Far North gradually easing.
